Anencephaly

Anencephaly is a condition in which a fetus forms with a partially formed brain and spinal cord. A child with this condition will be stillborn or die shortly after birth.

Anencephaly can be found during pregnancy with prenatal tests, such as ultrasound and amniocentesis. Since a baby with anencephaly won't survive, many people choose to end their pregnancy. Your doctor can talk with you about your options.
